The Black Box:

The reason that I chose this picture from "The Black Box" lecture relates mainly to the Jacques Cousteau section of my design. In his quote that I have chosen, he says that man must only sink below the surface and he is free. This image gives me the impression that I am looking down into a tunnel that is burying deep below the surface. To many, walking down this tunnel would be an intimidating, almost claustrophobic experience. However it is Cousteau's reasoning that makes us think otherwise. When most people are content living on the land, he chooses the ocean. Its like he chooses the road less travelled in order to experience things that everyone else will miss out on.
In relation to my design I am trying to emphasise the "road less travelled" theme. This, incorporated with the idea of travelling below the surface are both very suited to the theme I want to use for Cousteau's laboratory. Not only will this mesh in with the quote I have chosen, and many of the sketches I have produced, but will hopefully make for an intersting laboratory design.

Below are some images, whilst very similar to the image I have chosen from the lecture, help reinforce the idea I am trying to portray. These images are also beneficial as they have really interesting textures. This rough, rocky texture is something I would like to utilise in my design.
