EXP3 - The Bridge:

UT2004 Map:
SketchUp Model - The Bridge & Meeting Space:
SketchUp Model - Madonna's Space:

Final Environment:

After completing this assignment with the idea of Madonna's power relating to fame and fortune, this final environment shows how Madonna likes all eyes to be on her, and how she embraces being a "star".
Obama still relates to power in the form of fame, but rather than be in the spotlight he prefers a bit of sanctity, whilst still being able to observe his empire.

Development of Model:

I spent countless hours trying to export my models from SketchUp to Unreal Tournament. I read basically all the threads on the forums and still couldn't figure my problem out. Sometimes it would work (bridge and dining table), then other times it wouldn't (Obama and Madonna's space), when I had done nothing different... I became quite frustrated when I had to draw things in UT when I had already created them how I wanted in SketchUp. I tired bringing them in in smaller sections, single parts, groups etc. I can't explain why importing would work sometimes and not others. Even when importing the exact same item, sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't.
Regardless, here are the images of my model development.

18 Two Point Perspectives:

MashUp:

Revelling in power and influence after revenues of about $1.9 billion and selling close to 1million albums in the US. Fear and power do not peacefully coexist, and with power comes the occasional stroke of luck. Her rise is your basic story of a communist student who takes her families company and turns it into a luxury conglomerate which grossed $105million on tour and inked several lucrative endorsement deals which assured a legacy at the top of three branches of government. Madonna tops the list of power mums in entertainment thanks to her unparrellelled earnings and his approval rating are well over 60%, giving him political capital to undertake big challenges.

A distinctive and significant approach to the idea of power:
As shown in my revised mash-up above, my idea of power is along the lines of money and fame.

Further Progress/Lighting Development:

This image shows the initial incorporation of custom textures into my environment. It also shows some experimentation with different lighting effects.

Here is Keith Campbell's Laboratory (behind the vertical surface). This image also shows some initial lighting effects and textures used in the space.

An overall image of the environment showing the lighting effects. It also shows the lowest part of the entire environment (Cousteau's Laboratory) along with the ramp leading from the Laboratory up the platform that will be the Meeting Room.

This is an image of the environment that leads into Cousteau's Laboratory. As the arrowed texture shows, you must venture below the surface in order to reach the Laboratory.

Progress Images/Ramp Development:

These images show the progress of my Unreal Tournament Environment, focusing mainly on the development of the ramp. This is the initial section of the ramp flowing from Keith Campbell's Laboratory behind the vertical surface to the Meeting Space on the vertical surface itself.

Modified Textures:

I modified these textures in order to increase and intensify their desired effect. I took a different approach with each one in order to experiment with the lighting and shadows.
Eliminated hatching to intensify the pattern.
Here I used an ocean filter to haze the drawn lines, this increased the shadow effect of the texture.

By inverting the colours I made the light to dark effect become dark to light. I also used a shadow effect to make the pattern seem to glow. After modifying this texture I think this one best shows the experimentation of light and shadow.

I attempted to filter these textures with a brown haze and add a blurring effect.
